In this compelling book, Lee Jaffe takes readers inside the world of the Wailers during their formative years from 1973 to 1975, a pivotal period in Jamaican history marked by social and political change. He also traces the beginning of Peter Tosh’s solo career in 1976 with the groundbreaking album Legalize It.

Jaffe, a cross-disciplinary visual artist, musician, and poet, captures intimate portraits of the Wailers, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer, during the last three years they performed together. He first met Marley in New York through Traffic drummer and songwriter Jim Capaldi, sparking a close creative partnership and friendship. Living with Marley at 56 Hope Road in Jamaica for three years, Jaffe became an active participant in reggae’s international rise, performing on stage and in the studio, and later working with Peter Tosh and producing his iconic debut album. He also produced records for seminal Jamaican acts including Joe Higgs, Wailing Souls, Barrington Levy, and Morgan Heritage.

Through vivid first-person accounts and striking photographs, Jaffe places these legendary performers against the backdrop of a turbulent Jamaica, offering music fans an intimate look at the moments and experiences that inspired some of Marley’s most enduring songs. This book is a vibrant celebration of reggae culture, history, and artistry.
